    BREAST LIFT COSMETIC SURGERY

A breast lift, or breast mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes the breasts. The procedure will make breasts firmer and shapelier if they have sagged. Breast lifts will not change the size of the breast.

    Why it's done

As you get older, your breasts change — losing elasticity and firmness. There are many causes for these kinds of breast changes, including:

    Pregnancy:
During pregnancy, the ligaments that support your breasts might stretch as your breasts get fuller and heavier. This stretching might contribute to sagging breasts after pregnancy — whether or not you breast-feed your baby.
    Weight fluctuations:
Changes in your weight can cause your breast skin to stretch and lose elasticity.
    Gravity:
Over time, gravity causes ligaments in the breasts to stretch and sag.

What breast lift surgery can't do

Breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast. If you want your breasts to look fuller, consider breast lift and breast augmentation surgery.
If you want smaller breasts, consider combining breast lift and breast reduction surgery.

Whenever you have surgery, you will likely experience some discomfort associated with the procedure, and patients typically describe the discomfort associated with a breast lift as “moderate.”

Patients typically are off work for three to seven days. There are no restrictions after three weeks postoperatively. It usually takes 6 to 12 weeks for the breasts to achieve their final shape.

Remember that a breast lift does not slow the ageing process. Eventually, the breasts will drop years after a breast lift simply because the ageing process has continued.
